Julie A DeLilly, M.D., F.C.C.P is Board-certified in Internal Medicine with a Pulmonary subspecialty, but she didn’t intend at first to go into internal medicine. “When I was considering my career options, I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician after working in a pediatrician’s office in my teenage years,” she says. “But once I was in medical school, I did a rotation in internal medicine with adults diagnosing, treating, and listening to them. I loved it. I didn’t choose internal medicine; it chose me.”

“I joined Providence Little Company of Mary because I love their philosophy, their compassion toward patients, their mission statement, and the Mary Potter Outreach Program to help the underserved,” DeLilly says. “My philosophy is to listen carefully to my patient so I can provide the best, most compassionate care,” she says. “My goal for each patient is to address her or his needs and treat them as if they were a family member.” No doubt this is why she receives so many 5-star reviews from her patients.

Because she specialized in Pulmonary, Dr. DeLilly was reassigned to care for Covid patients from December through February. She is again on call to return to Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance caring for COVID patients if the need arises. However, you will most likely find her in the clinic these days. “This past year during the pandemic reaffirmed my belief of encouraging preventative care, healthy living, and working as a team with patients to improve one’s health,” she states. She is one of only a handful of female pulmonologists in the South Bay.

Dr. DeLilly received her medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and received the Chemistry Award as an undergraduate. She also received the coveted Surgery Honorary Award and the Solomon Scholars Resident Research Award. DeLilly did her internship and residency with the Veterans Affairs W. Los Angeles Healthcare Systems in California, where she served as Chief Resident. She joined the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Summer Research Program at Norris Cancer Institute, University of Southern California, and Children’s Hospital, where she analyzed the altered growth properties of transformed human cells, and also joined the Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

A California native, Dr. DeLilly enjoys hiking and Pilates in her off-hours. Her bucket list includes exploring Europe with her husband and sons after the pandemic has lifted.
