Sony Naing, N.P., is a Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in Family Medicine and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
“My philosophy of care is to provide compassionate, up-to-date, and honest care for all patients by integrating knowledge, holistic, and best practices. Everyone deserves a chance at a healthy lifestyle, and I strive to provide the utmost quality care while examining and treating the person as a whole. I enjoy working in medicine because it allows me the opportunity to treat and manage a patient’s illness while working with the individual or family to improve health outcomes.”
“Growing up in the underserved community of Cambodia Town, a cultural enclave in Long Beach, California, and noticing the lack of healthcare providers, I was motivated to go into medicine in general and nursing, in particular, to contribute to the overall health of my community. Traveling to third world countries has also shown me the need for health care providers, and these experiences propelled me on a career path in medicine,” Naing says. “I understand that having access to excellent healthcare, understanding disease prevention, and self-empowerment are critical components to ensuring a healthy lifestyle. I wanted to integrate my knowledge and apply it to skills that I can use to educate, treat, and heal my patients.”
If you speak with Naing’s patients, they will tell you that she consistently exceeds their expectations as a care provider. Naing says, “I always review each patient’s chart before entering the room so I can be up to speed and not waste their time. I think it is important to be a good listener and provide explanations that are clear and easy to understand.” Her patients will tell you that Naing is always friendly, kind, and respectful. “I think it is important to treat each of my patients like a person, not a number, so I never want to rush them,” she says.
Naing is involved in various committees within PMA, including the Adult Medicine Committee, APC Committee, PMA, LA Regional Risk Adjustment Committee, Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) Technology Committee, and the Onboarding Committee. She is also happy to share her knowledge with others. She says, “I enjoy giving presentations on Risk Adjustments in the Primary Care forum and helping new providers in the onboarding process.”
Outside of medicine, Naing says, “I enjoy spending time with my family and pets. I also like to paint, hike and do other fun outdoor activities for exercise. I love to travel, and I’ve been to multiple countries and continents, ranging from Cambodia to France, and I look forward to traveling more after the pandemic eases up.”
Naing earned her nursing degree at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA/CSULA). You can find her providing outstanding care to her patients at PMI Wateridge Primary and Specialty Care.
