Samra Vazirian, M.D., is a board-certified neurologist at Providence Medical Institute in Torrance. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the American Academy of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Neuromuscular Medicine.

When asked why she chose medicine, she said, “I was exposed to healthcare concerns early in childhood through my parents, who were pioneers of Polio eradication in the Middle East as World Health Organization doctors. Since childhood, I had the opportunity to experience various cultures and languages while we traveled globally so my parents could fulfill their Global Health commitments.”

Inspired by her early life experiences, Dr. Vazirian grew up to be a compassionate physician and found her passion early on in medicine. “I was honored to be involved in ground-breaking research that received awards and media coverage by the American Academy of Neurology,” she says. Her research culminated in publications and book chapters she authored. “My diverse experiences from childhood until now, including my Global Health work with the United Nations, taught me empathy, which I believe is crucial to being a compassionate neurologist,” she says.

Dr. Vazirian has trained at some of the largest academic centers in the United States, providing her with a large volume of clinical experience working with patients with neurological disorders, including headaches, seizures, dementia, stroke, and neuromuscular disorders.

Dr. Vazirian earned her medical degree from the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Upon graduating, she moved to Boston and gained valuable experience in Harvard learning a wide range of neurological disorders. She then moved to Los Angeles, where she completed preliminary medicine training at the Olive View UCLA Medical Center. She completed her Neurology residency at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Still, she missed Los Angeles, so she moved back to L.A. to complete a fellowship at the UCLA School of Medicine – Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

When not working, Dr. Vazirian enjoys hiking, swimming, yoga, and meditation.
