William Liu, M.D. is dual board-certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. He enjoys serving as the Specialty Department Chair for Providence Medical Associates. Dr. Liu has been practicing medicine in the South Bay for 37 years.
Dr. Liu has enjoyed getting to know his patients and their families over the years. “I am honored that so many of my patients trust me so much they have been with me for decades,” he says. “I chose medicine because I believe everyone deserves to receive compassionate health care. I chose rheumatology as my specialty because I want to help improve the quality of life for people suffering chronic rheumatological diseases, such as osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, spinal pain, systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis, and so many more. Medicine is a way to change people’s lives. Seeing my patients live fuller, more active lives is incredibly satisfying.”
Although born in Taiwan, Dr. Liu was educated in the Midwest since the age of 11. “My goal is to provide personalized medical care to my patients and help them enjoy more full and healthy lives. I enjoy developing long-term relationships with my patients so that I can better serve their medical needs,” he says.
Dr. Liu earned his medical degree from the Loyola University Chicago-Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. He completed his internship and residency at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan, and did a rheumatology fellowship at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois.
When he’s not treating patients at the Providence Family Medical Center in Redondo Beach or Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, Dr. Liu often organizes medical mission trips to Central and South America and Southeast Asia. He has led over 100 volunteer trips for more than two decades. Dr. Liu also enjoys playing tennis, gardening, and photography.
