Dan Streja, M.D., a beloved PMA physician
To Our Providence Medical Associates Family—
It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Dan Streja, M.D., a beloved PMA physician and UCLA professor who brought his whole heart to work every day at our West Hills office for over 40 years. Though his life was cut short unexpectedly, he prepared a farewell message to his patients, which we would like to share with you:
To My Dear Patients,
I came to California in 1979 and have been working at West Hills for all these years.
From time to time as I was getting older, I was asked by you if I am planning to retire, and I made a pledge to you not to do so. I also told you that I would like to “die in my boots”. This goodbye letter to you is to inform you that I am doing so.
On Monday March 13th, I flew to Washington, DC to visit my beloved grandchildren and family. On arrival, I did not feel well and went to the ER of INOVA Hospital where I was diagnosed to have had a heart attack. Analysis of the situation showed advanced features of heart failure, which led to the heart attack and renal failure requiring dialysis.
I am not allowed to leave the intensive care unit, even less to fly back to Los Angeles, and I have no idea how many days I have left.
I am writing this letter to repledge my love to you and to thank you for making me who I am.
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude for the way you have returned my love and kindness.
I pray that you will find someone to listen to you, understand you, ease your pain, and prevent you from getting into trouble.
