PMA Providers and Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance Earn National Recognition for Pulmonary Embolism Care

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance has earned national recognition for excellence in pulmonary embolism (PE) care, receiving designation as a Comprehensive Care Center and PE Center of Excellence from The PERT Consortium, a national organization dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with PE.

While the designation is awarded to the hospital, the achievement reflects the leadership, expertise and collaboration of Providence Medical Associates (PMA) physicians and advanced practice providers who are integral to the hospital’s Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT). Through a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to evaluating and treating pulmonary embolism, PMA providers help ensure patients receive rapid, coordinated care when every minute matters.

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance is one of only two hospitals in Southern California and one of just 16 nationwide to receive this distinction.

The recognition follows a rigorous review process evaluating clinical quality, multidisciplinary collaboration and patient outcomes. PMA cardiologists work alongside specialists and caregivers across cardiovascular services, emergency medicine, critical care, nursing and pharmacy to provide timely, comprehensive care for patients experiencing this potentially life-threatening condition.

For patients, this designation means access to a highly coordinated team of specialists equipped to quickly identify and treat pulmonary embolism, a serious condition caused by blood clots in the lungs. Timely, coordinated care can make a significant difference in outcomes, and this recognition places Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance among a select group of programs nationwide recognized for delivering this advanced level of specialized care.

“As a community hospital committed to delivering the highest quality care, we are exceptionally proud of achieving PERT Center of Excellence accreditation,” said Rishi Kaushal, MD, medical director of cardiovascular services at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance and a PMA provider. “This recognition validates our commitment to deliver transformative care to our community while joining a network of thought leaders dedicated to advancing and redefining the standard of care for this critical disease state that affects so many lives.”

The designation also speaks to the trust patients place in the physicians and caregivers who serve them. After experiencing the care provided by the PE response team, donor and former patient Julius Bogdanowicz and his wife, Barbara, made a philanthropic investment in the accreditation process. Their generosity helped make this achievement possible and will help ensure future patients have access to the same high level of care.

For PMA providers, this recognition underscores a shared commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and patient-centered care. Their leadership and partnership helped build a nationally recognized pulmonary embolism program that delivers outstanding outcomes for patients across the South Bay and beyond.
